Getting ready for minting

Updated: Jan 9

Minting has started! Some of us are already familiar with the concept of minting an NFT. However, we want to help those who are new to NFTs to understand how they can mint and also what they need in order to mint a Cronos Ragdoll NFT.

What is minting?

Usually, the program that generates the NFTs (smart contract) does not have any existing NFT object when it is created. Minting is the process of creating an NFT token using a method that safely creates a new token and transfers it to the caller (https://docs.openzeppelin.com/contracts/2.x/api/token/erc721#ERC721-_safeMint-address-uint256-bytes-). Minting usually comes with a cost, unless the smart contract gives an airdrop. The total cost of minting is the cost of the NFT itself plus a network fee, which is used to mint and transfer the token to the rightful owner.

How to mint a Cronos Ragdoll?

Before we continue, always verify that you are using the following official links:

Now that you know our official links, it is time to review the process of minting. You will need the following:

  • A wallet in the Cronos network the token of the network is CRO. However, Crypto.com and Cronos networks are two different blockchains. Crypto.com blockchain is private, and the Cronos network is the public blockchain for CRO. One way to know if your wallet is Cronos is to check that it starts with the prefix “0x”.

  • You should be able to access your Cronos wallet using either Crypto.com De-Fi wallet or Metamask For Metamask you need to add the Cronos network as explained here.

  • Your wallet needs to have the cost of the NFT (currently at 22 CRO) plus the network fee, which is about 1.25 CRO. It’s always a good idea to have a bit more CRO than what you need in your wallet, just in case the network fee is higher than expected.

  • Our recommended approach to top-up your Cronos wallet is to use the Crypto.com app. Go to Crypto Wallet, select Crypto.com Coin. Then tap on Transfer, Withdraw, select Crypto.com DeFi Wallet, Crypto.com Coin, and here make sure you choose Cronos as network. Then select the amount you want to withdraw, verify that the information is correct, and then confirm the transaction.

Once you have prepared everything you need for minting, you can go to minting.cronosragdolls.com and click Connect. Depending on the device you are using to access the site, you will need to follow diffferent steps:

  • If you are using a mobile device, you will see a window wallet WalletConnect asking you to select the application to use. Tap on the Crypto.com icon and you will be asked to confirm the connection.

  • If you are on a desktop using a browser with the Metamask extension or Crypto.com DeFi Wallet extension installed, you will be prompted to confirm that you want to connect to the app directly from the extension. Make sure that you are connected to the Cronos network in your wallet.

  • If you are on a desktop that does not have Metamask or the Crypto.com DeFi wallet extension installed, you will see a window called WalletConnect showing a QR code. You can scan this code using your Crypto.com DeFi app by tapping on the top right icon of the app. Then, you will be asked to confirm the connection on your app.

Once you are connected, give the application some time to load and wait for the Buy button to appear. Then, select the amount of NFT tokens you want to mint and click Buy. You will be shown a confirm screen in the wallet that you used to connect. Once you confirm it, minting will start. Give it some seconds (about 10) and the application will show your minted NFT at the bottom of the screen. Keep in mind that after minting the token is completed, we cannot revert this action.

Troubleshooting

  • 404 Error in the token page: We are aware that sometimes the application shows a 404 error image when showing your NFTs. If this happens, try again after some time. Your NFT is safe but the application is having trouble loading the image and it usually recovers after a few minutes.

  • Problems confirming the transaction: We have received some feedback that sometimes minting on mobile is not showing the confirmation button after tapping Buy. If this happens to you, we recommend you to mint using the Crypto.com DeFi wallet by going to the Dapp section of the app, and pasting the following address on the top URL bar: minting.cronosragdolls.com this way, all the process will happen within the Crypto.com DeFi wallet itself, without requiring you to switch between the browser and the app.

  • Cannot see the NFT in the DeFi wallet: Displaying NFT tokens is not yet supported in many wallets. We hope that the Crypto.com DeFi wallet supports NFT from the Cronos network soon.
